National Metrology Laboratory

The LNM is the Mauritanian National Metrology Laboratory under the National Office for Standardization and Metrology (ONANOR). It was established by Law No. 2010/003 of 14 January 2010 and Decree 2023/080 of 09 May 2023. Its main role is to maintain and develop national measurement standards, ensure metrological traceability in Mauritania, and provide calibrations requested by Mauritanian industry. It is organized into two services: industrial metrology and legal metrology.
1. Ensure the traceability of measurements to the units of the International System (SI): by developing, maintaining and improving national measurement standards and ensuring their comparison with those of other countries.
2. Ensure consistency of measurements at national level: by disseminating SI units to laboratories, industrial operators, research centres and inspection bodies.
3. Participate in metrological research by developing new measurement methods and contributing to the evolution of the International System of Units.
4. Represent the country in international metrology bodies, particularly the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM).
5. Support innovation, industry and quality: by ensuring reliable and accurate measurements in strategic fields: health, environment, energy, security, health and trade.
